Jet-Lagged

Now that we've been back in the US for a little over 36 hours, and after having just been in Europe for 6 weeks, I feel inclined to make some observational notes.

Things I miss about Europe:
  • Breakfast food (especially in hotels)
  • Quality of food
  • Quality of coffee
  • Navigating language barriers
  • Roundabouts
  • How everything is so old and established
  • No taxes (every price is as you see it)
  • Chocolate croissants
  • Chocolate, in general
  • Checking facebook in the morning and knowing that everyone in the US had already updated for the day and was sleeping
  • Hospitality everywhere (from hotels, to cafes, to venues)
  • Seeing people on bicycles everywhere (this is specifically in the Netherlands)
  • Feeling challenged by discriminating audiences
Things I'm glad to return to in the US:
  • Larger beverages (with ice)
  • Variety of restaurants
  • Barrage Educational Programs with young, enthusiastic audiences
  • Being able to read and understand everything
  • Not being worried about talking over the audiences' heads
  • Queen-sized beds in hotel rooms
  • Being in cities where I can meet up with friends
  • Being able to use my cell phone
  • Buying magazines
  • Not thinking there is a possibility of rain every day
  • Fall colors in Wisconsin
  • Not having to use adapters in electrical outlets
  • Being able to easily see movies in English
  • Not constantly having 1 or 2 dollar coins in my pockets

Last night was our first US show of the season in Middleton, Wisconsin (just west of Madison).  It feels great to be back doing Educational Programs, and also to be able to catch up with friends!

With Tanya, Vikki, and Vlad.  Vikki did her doctorate in my studio when I was at ASU--her family even invited me over for a traditional Russian meal before the show!  Thanks, Vikki--it was great getting to see you and your family!
